Scientific Research Expeditions

Gift of Go supports scientists and researchers working in Brazil’s Serra do Espinhaço and the surrounding Cerrado.

Our role is logistical and field-based. We help local and international research teams move through remote terrain, reach communities and conservation areas, and operate safely in landscapes where infrastructure is minimal and local knowledge matters.

Because our work is rooted in long-term field presence and relationships across the range, we’re often able to assist with access, local coordination, transportation, and expedition support in places that are otherwise difficult to reach.

Members of our team also serve on the advisory council of Sempre Vivas National Park, one of the region’s largest protected areas.

Researchers interested in working in the Espinhaço are welcome to reach out to discuss what support might look like in practice.

Student Expeditions

Gift of Go also designs and guides field expeditions for university and student groups interested in experiencing the landscapes, communities, and ecological systems of the Serra do Espinhaço firsthand.

We maintain a convênio (cooperation agreement) with the Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri (UFVJM) in Diamantina, Minas Gerais, and we work with local faculty and specialists when appropriate.

Student programs in the region typically combine:

• field travel in the Espinhaço
• direct exposure to Cerrado ecosystems and conservation areas
• deep interaction with rural communities and working landscapes
• discussions with local researchers, historians, and practitioners

Programs can be designed for universities, high schools, field courses, and small educational groups, depending on objectives, group size, and time available.

If you are a professor, program leader, or institution interested in organizing a field expedition in the Serra do Espinhaço, we’re happy to start a conversation.

These programs are expeditionary by nature and best suited for small groups prepared for active field travel.
